Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day
Sunday 11th November 2012

Good afternoon, bloggers! Today, as I hope you haven't forgotten, is Remembrance/ Armistice Day. This is the one day in the year when we pause to remember the brave soldiers who fought for their families, their country, and most importantly, their lives.

Wearing my poppy with pride!

All Commonwealth countries celebrate the soldiers' courage on this day, as on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month in 1918, World War One was declared over.

Many other countries also celebrate this occasion, despite it not being a national holiday, to pay their respects to those who have died in previous wars.

The idea of wearing a poppy on Remembrance Day was established from the famous poem, 'In Flanders Field'. Poppies bloomed in their thousands across the fields of Flanders, one of the most devastated battlefields, making it a poignant symbol to represent the day.

We hope that at 11:00 am this morning you stopped what you were doing and completed the 2 minute silence, or paused throughout the day to think about those who put their lives on the line to defend what they believed in.

I was very impressed by the efforts on Twitter too, where the majority of users stopped tweeting for an entire two minutes (wow!) to commemorate the occasion.

Below is an outfit that I've created, inspired by Remembrance Day! Hope you've had a sweet Sunday!
