People's Choice Awards 2013

What: People's Choice Awards
When: Wednesday 11th January 2013
Where: Nokia Theatre, L.A

Awards Season is here (woohoo!) and we LOVE IT. With the Golden Globes tonight and The Brits, The Grammys and The Oscars in February, we can't wait to see all the starlets flaunting their designer gowns down the red carpet!

Expect full coverage on the fashion side right here! Here's a selection of dresses from the People's Choice Awards from Wednesday night, which allows the public to fully decide who wins each award- and there was over 50 of them!

The odds were most definitely in Jennifer Lawrence's favour, as she took home 6 awards, and 'Hot or Cold' singer Katy Perry received 4!

What do you think of the selection of gowns?

Olivia Munn in Carolina Herrera, Jennifer Lawrence in Valentino Couture & Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang and Jimmy Choos.

Shay Mitchell in Giorgio Armani and Jimmy Choos, Lea Michele in Elie Saab & Ashley Rickards in an embellished nude gown.

Katy Perry in Valentino and Jimmy Choos, Julianne Hough wore a Tony Ward Couture dress and Giuseppi Zanotti heels and Jennifer Aniston in Dior and Tom Ford heels.

Chloe-Grace Moretz in a Simon Rocha dress and Casedai heels, socialite Paris Hilton wore a daring print dress and Rachel Leigh Cook wore a beautiful Oliver Tarentino dress.

Emma Watson in a Peter Piloto dress and Tabitha Simmons heels, hostess Kaley Cuoco in one of the five dresses she wore that night and Morena Backerin in Donna Karan

The most surprising look of the night was newly-single Taylor Swift, who rocked up in a deep v-neck Ralph Lauren Collection dress and Louboutin heels. Look what you're missing, Harry!

Can't wait for the next awards show!

Brigitte Bardot

"They may call me a sinner, but I'm at peace with myself" -Brigitte Bardot

She was the Parisian queen of the 50's and 60's, a singer, actress, model and all round beauty icon.

She oozed that kind of effortless chic, reminiscent of modern stars like Suki Waterhouse and Cara Delevingne. I love her for her individuality, beliefs and how nothing anyone said about her would put her off track.

1). Go Big or Go Home
Brigitte's hair was simply gorgeous. A blonde mass of perfectly messy curls and tangles, which helped create her iconic image. It's that type of 'just rolled out of bed after a late night' kind of hair that every girl craves. The best way to achieve a look similar to Brigitte's is to use a shampoo and conditioner that are catered to increasing volume, like Herbal Essences Body Envy, especially if you have thinner hair. If you have a mass of curly hair like me, it might be easier to half straighten it! Use a paddle brush to backcomb hair on the crown of your head, and pin at the back with a cute little bow clip, or secure with a large fabric hairband.

2). Bambi Eyes

Brigitte's classic smokey eye is practically timeless, and can always be seen through night AND day. To avoid that 'hard night on the tiles' kind of look, make sure you use a good primer beforehand, like Benefit That Gal. Apply all over the eyelids. You will need two black shadows, one a little lighter than the other, so I would reccommend staying within the same brand but just going a tad further up their colour scale. Take the lighter one and blend it all over the eyelid, taking it out slightly further at the side. Do the same with the darker shadow. It may look slightly scary at first, especially when you've only completed the first eye, but do not fear! Use a kohl eyeliner ( I use Rimmel!) and apply it on your upper water line and lash line. Extreme. Keep lipstick to a minimum, with pale pinks and nudes, but make use of enlarging your brows, as she liked a bit of a statement!

3). Keep Up

Brigitte was first scouted participating in her mother's friend's fashion show, and was soon signed to an agency. Her first Elle magazine cover debuted when she was just 15 ( WHAT.) and appeared in several campaigns and movies afterwards. She had previously aspired to be a professional ballerina, which gave her extremely good posture and elegance. Many of us always complain about how we 'have as much elegance as an elephant' but if you think about keeping your back straight and your chin up high, it will make you feel ten times better. It can also make you look taller, lighter and more attractive. I seen you all shoot up there.

4). Go Gingham

Bardot was also lusted after for her individual and intriguing fashion style. A fan of nipped-in waists, big hats, faux leather and fur and black, her iconic look was copied by many throughout the 50's and 60's, and can still be seen in many things we wear today. She was granted the Bardot neckline, which is seen on many tops and dresses. It is when the neckline is cut straight across from shoulder to shoulder, often a bit more exposed than your usual t-shirt, but certainly still popular today! She also brought the likes of gingham and high-waisted shorts into the light. You go girl!

5). Animal Friendly

Brigitte swiftly exited the Hollywood limelight in the late 70's, wanting to live a calmer life. Since then, she has became a world-famous ( in her own right ) animal rights activist and vegetarian vegan. Wow! She has wrote to many powerful men and women, including the French Prime Minister, Queen of Denmark and the Chinese President, enraged at how they treat their animals. Try to eat healthier and avoid so many animal based products ( try Quorn!) and try not to step on so many spiders in the street or heave your cat off the bed when it wakes you up on a Sunday. Simple!

Hope you've been inspired to try out some Brigitte looks and have fun!

Audrey Hepburn

How About Breakfast at Tiffany's?

Many of you out there will have that one favourite movie that was created years (even decades) before you were even born. Or your parents were born.

I, for example, simply adore Breakfast at Tiffany's.
It is one of the most magical and fashion-savvy films I've seen, and is definitely an all-time best! It stars arguably the most beautiful film-star of all time, Audrey Hepburn, as classy yet eccentric socialite Holly Golightly, who lives in 60's NYC. Her portrayal of so-called 'cafe society' girl Holly is credited as one of the most famous roles ever played in American film history!
If you've watched the movie ( and if you haven't, HOP TO IT) you will have stared in awe at Hepburn's style and simple beauty, wishing it were that easy to look so beautiful! Below is a few tips on how you can transform yourself into a modern day Audrey!

'Oh golly gee damn!'

1). Less is More
Audrey always kept it minimalistic when it came to clothing, often sticking to neutral colours. To replicate this, choose quality over quantity, as timeless pieces will keep you going for a lot longer!

2). Just A Little Flick
Her clean, classic 1960's look is always on trend, so there's no way you'll look odd when you step out! There's no need to buy expensive brands if you're only trying the look out!

3). Keep It Sleek
Audrey's dark, shiny locks are trademark to her style. Whether in a classic top-knot or loose around her shoulders, it always looked perfectly groomed. Use L'Oreal Paris Nutri-Gloss Shine Shampoo & Conditioner and blow dry with a diffuser. For the bun hair-style, tie hair in a high ponytail and slot on a hair doughnut similar to your colour. Tuck and pin the hair in and around the bun and back-comb the front of your hair. If you're wanting to go for the extra glamour, you could wear a beaded headband or sparkly accessory to spruce it up!

4). Make It A Statement
If you're going for simple pieces then you'll need to have some statement accessories! Take a look at these, which are SO Audrey!

5). Stay Positive!
Depsite the constant attention that comes with fame, Audrey always managed to stay grounded. She has many life quotes to her name, and people would admire her for her optimism.

Have fun!

We Love...Kendall!

Style Crush

Kendall Nicole Jenner, aged 17, is a runway & editorial model and tv personality from California, USA.
The daughter of gold-medal Olympian Bruce Jenner and so-called 'momager' Kris Jenner, the teen originally found fame on hit E! reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Kendall signed with Wilhelmina Modelling Agency and began modelling at the tender age of 14, and has been snapped up by the likes of Miss Vogue, Sherri Hill and  Forever 21, to name a few!

I adore her simple fashion sense, which always has an edge of urban, L.A cool. She is never a stranger to try out daring prints and bright colours, and you can always catch her in a pair of leather-spiked Louboutins.

Jealous much!?

The paradise-like climate of L.A gives her the opportunity to dress like we only wish we could in the UK, with Bambi & Manson shorts and Rayban aviators. Sigh.

Her long, poker straight, dark brown locks fit in well with her fashion sense, as does her clean, minimal make-up. Her favourites are Lip Lights lip gloss and Smashbox Foundation Primer. She usually sports a nude lip, which draws more attention to her eyes, which she tends to intensify with MAC Kohl Eyeliner.
I also admire Kendall for her down to earth personality. She admits that she is a shy and quiet person, and once said in an interview that she' doesn't want to say anything around new people in case they think she is a weirdo', which reminds me a lot of myself!
I think Kendall is utterly FABULOUS, and is soon to be one of the most sought-after fashion icons of our generation.

Here are some of my Kendall-inspired outfits!:

Model Muse: Gemma Ward

Gemma Ward, age 25, is a fashion model turned actress from Perth, Australia.

She was scouted at the tender age of 14, when she was accompanying her friends to a model search competition, Search For a Supermodel. She was dressed in 'a big, gray barn jacket and was covered in mud, having just returned from her Uncle & Auntie's farm. The scouts weren't interested in her friends though. They wanted her.

When asked if she was interested in taking some tester shots, she initally said 'No, thank you." and kept on walking. Unknown to her, having already noticed her supermodel potential, forged her parents' signature, and thrust her in front of the camera.

In 2003, aged just 15, Gemma made her Australian Fashion Week debut, wowing the anticipated crowds.

At 16, she was featured in prestigious fashion magazine, US Vogue, and had walked for the likes of Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta

At 17, she beat THE Kate Moss to the job of promoting Calvin Klein's new fragrance. Now that's something.

After being declared as the 'Model of the Moment', and having s hugely successful career throughout 2003 to 2008, Gemma decided to retire from modelling to take up acting, something she had wanted to do for a long time.

She has now had roles in movies such as Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides, The Black Balloon, and is currently filming the big feature film adaption of The Great Gatsby!
I find her beauty very ethical and natural, and she has such an intriguing style, which is essential for any model. Not to mention, Karl Lagerfield has previously declared her as his 'muse'. Wow.

My favourite picture of Gemma Ward is her cover for Numero magazine. I drew this cover for an art project back in July, not knowing who she was, but determined to find out! Here's the picture I drew and the original:

Hope you like it!( Its A3 ,so sorry for the awful quality!)

We Love...Lianne!

Style Crush

 Lianne La Havas

aged 23, is an English folk and soul singer-songwriter from London, England.

Born to a Greek bus-driver father and a Jamaican postlady mother, Lianne refers her kooky approach to music and fashion to her diverse roots.

After watching her for quite a while since I first heard her track, No Room For Doubt, with Willy Mason, I was hooked, and intrigued by her individuality.

Renown for her trademark lopsided bun and trusty guitar, Lianne recently supported Alicia Keys' MTV Crashes, which was broadcasted in a MASSIVE 164 countries!

She has also supported Wisconsin folk band Bon Iver on their December 2011 North American tour!

She also has many celebrity fans, including Tom Ford, Stevie Wonder and Prince, who rang her when she was having a pint in the pub with her boyfriend! Jealous...
She cites her style icons as multi-award winning actress and director, Diane Keaton, and Prince, in his Purple Rain video.

Lianne is recognised for her love of eclectic pieces, including popping brights, shoulder pads, Peter Pan collars and chunky statement necklaces.

Her make-up is usually very natural, although she is never caught without a statement flick of kohl eyeliner, and a dot in the middle of her bottom eyelid. Cute!

We predict that Lianne is destined for super-stardom, along with the greats of Etta Jones and Amy Winehouse.
